In my opinion good BBQ chicken should be a little sweet, a little spicy , and a little sticky. This BBQ chicken rub provides all of those things. It only makes 1/4 of a cup but that will be more than enough for 8 thighs and 8 legs, with probably a little left over for later.
This is my go to for BBQ chicken, it pairs great with any BBQ sauce and always delivers a crispy skin. One thing I will warn about is due to the brown sugar this will burn quickly if left over direct heat.
BBQ Chicken Rub
Recipe by The Bored Foodie Difficulty: Easy5
minutes1/4
CupSweet and spicy. Perfect for BBQ Chicken.
Ingredients
1 T 1 Paprika
1 T 1 Brown Sugar
1 t 1 Onion Flakes (Ground Up)
1 t 1 Lawry's Seasoned Salt
1 t 1 Chili Powder
1/2 t 1/2 Garlic Powder
1/2 t 1/2 Red Pepper Flakes
1/2 t 1/2 Black Pepper
1/2 t 1/2 Kosher Salt
1/2 t 1/2 Ground Mustard
Directions
- Combine all ingredients in a bowl, whisk to combine, and place in spice shaker for easy use.
Notes
- I like to grind up my onion flakes with a mortal and pestle in order to give the rub more texture. You can sub in onion powder if you don't want to do this extra step.
