Sweet, smoky, and spicy is how I would describe this rub. This has been my go-to carnitas seasoning for a long time. It is fast to make and easy to store. I like to store it in an old spice container.

This is the same rub I used on my Smoked Carnitas with Pepper Slaw and anytime I make carnitas in a more traditional way.

Carnitas Rub

Cup
Prep time

minutes

This will make more than is necessary for 1 batch or carnitas but I like to store it in an old spice container so I always have it handy

Ingredients

  • 1/2 C 1/2 Brown Sugar

  • 1/4 C 1/4 Cumin

  • 2 T 2 Coriander

  • 2 T 2 Tajin (Clasico Seasoning)

  • 2 T 2 Salt

  • 1 T 1 Ancho Powder

  • 1 T 1 Chipotle Powder

  • 1 T 1 Black Pepper

  • 1 T 1 Dried Oregano

  • 1 T 1 Chili de Arbol Powder

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients in a bowl and stir to combine, the brown sugar can clump up so use a fork to evenly mix.
  • Add to a shaker or old spice container to make applying easier.

Notes

  • A small food hack: I like to add a sport shake blender bottle ball and add it to the spice container. This will help keep the brown sugar from clumping.
